Bere Ukes are a group of people who meet in Bere Ferrers to play ukuleles, sing a bit and generally have a good time.  The group meet weekly and have done a number of performances since their formation in January 2010.

Performances in the first year included slots at the monthly acoustic nights, a birthday party, a village summer garden party, parties in Bere Ferrers Social Club, an Oxjam concert and the Ukes were asked to perform at the Harvest Festival service at St Andrew’s Church in Bere Ferrers.

A large Bere Ukes performance was at the Bere Ukes and Friends concert held at Bere Alston Bowling Club on 9 April 2011.  This event sold out and raised £1200 for the Weir Quay Community Watersports Hub Club funds.
We have been offline for most of 2013.  In January having lost Mike our MD due to his many other musical commitments we became the Bere Ukies, working with a tutor.  Some of us found that this more formal approach to ukulele playing wasn’t for us and we spent the Summer playing together in each other’s homes.  We discovered quickly that playing without help and guidance from someone with a good musical knowledge is very difficult.  Fortunately Cathy with her patience, keyboard and vast collection of sheet music, offered to take us on.  Mike has agreed to support us again and give us advice and a good musical workout when he can. He has also agreed to set up and manage our website again for us.
So here we are the newly re-formed and re-vitalised Bere Ukes – happy, friendly, having fun and even doing the odd gig or two. We normally meet from 3 till 4.30pm on Fridays.  If you would like to know more, initially get in touch with us at ukes.bereukes@gmail.com. No previous experience is necessary, tuition is free and we only make a nominal charge if and when we hire the church hall for a practice session.
Searching for Bere Ukes online, you might be confused about what is going on with ukulele groups in Bere Ferrers!  There are two different websites by the Bere Ukies saying that Bere Ukes was changing its name to Bere Ukies, and another one saying they have now disbanded from 11 October 2013.
No need to be confused. The original Bere Ukes are now back having fun and our address is www.bereukes.co.uk for your bookmarks, desktop links
